Klosterarbeiten![]() So-called "Klosterarbeiten", artwork form monasteries, exist since the 15th century and were crafted mainly in Switzerland, South-Germany and Austria. This special handicraft reached its heyday in the 17th and 18th century. The exclusiveness of theses artworks don't lie in the material, as they are normal: glass beads, paper, wax, dired weed, wire and cloth. These materials were in labourious handwork corcheted, twisted and formed. To a medium-sized Klosterarbeit 50 to 100 hours of handcraft are devoted. These artforms were not only used in churches put were part of daily life: bridal crowns, adornment for homes and for traditional costumes. Nowadays Klosterarbeiten are for many Austrians, Swiss and Sout-Germanys as new as for our Irish, Swedish or English customers. And we were very glad to find some craftspeople who still know of the old techniques and traditions.
