Our brooch dragonfly is an exceptional example of art nouveau-style brooches. During the turn of the centuries the 19th century ending, the 20th beginning, a lot of interesting and wonderful trends started unter the label "art nouveau" - in german "Jugenstil", in spanish "modernismo". The organic world, with round forms and all the animals and plants were important and influenced all forms, be it jewellery, paintings or architecutre. Big hair pins and brooches in the form of animals were very popular. Also oraganic materials from horn to teeth, as well as glass and opals. These european styles were inspired by different cultures, e.g. the japanese. Especially among the silver jewellery pieces in our shop, you will find some that feature forms of art nouveau. This dragonfly of 925 sterling silver is covered with 33 garnets. In Japan the dragonfly is a symbol for strenght and luck and are commonly in art and literature.
