A charm bracelet, in German "Bettelarmband" is very common as traditional jewellery. Usually already as child a girl got such a bracelet, consisting of a chain, and maybe a single charm dangling from it. New charms, or jou-jous, were given on birthdays or for other special occasions, and during the years the bracelet was filled with all different signs, symbols and even letters.
