This "Klosterarbeit" is a so-called devotion-handicraft, an artwork that might adorn a part in the living-room for prayer. Such handicraft was used to thank for a special blessing, the long-waited for birth of a child or the healing or bettering of an illness. The painted wax in the middle shows Mary and the Christ Child both crowned, the form is handpainted. Around them you find golden lace and filligre work with several forms of flowers. All elements are made of gold plated wire and adorned with pealrls garnet pearls and glass beads. The background is covered with printed blue silk. The frame is of wood coloured with gold and blue the decorative work is covered up with a glass to protect it.
