This photograph shows a so called "Fatschenkind", a Christ child as a baby, wrapped in cloth. The baby child is shown in a nest. The Christ child is adorned with wire and flowers typical for the so called "Klosterarbeiten", a special technique and style of adorning images of saints. The face of the newborn Jesus is made of wax and handpainted. This kind of artwork was very popular 200 years ago, skilled crafters revive this technique and the protracted method of forming the wire, adding the pearls, beads and flowers.

Kindl - baby Jesus are common as decoration in December, some use these kind of religious adornment all year long and have them stored in a special corner of the living room, the so called "Herrgottswinkel".

Each Kindl is unique and they might change slightly, especially the used cloth and the golden wire decoration is different on each Klosterarbeit.
