The Paschal lamb is the lamb sacrificed at Passover. In the Christian tradition the lamb is the symbol for Jesus Christ. The lamb is wearing the Christian banner. The whole decoration is in half of an egg, which is covered with a gold coloured cloth and golden lace. In the egg you see a lamb handmade of wax and coloured by hand. There are also some decorations in the style of typical Austrian and German Klosterarbeit. Golden wire is formed to leaves and flowers together with some glass beads, so-called rocailles.

In ecclesiastical, traditional Austrian art the lamb and the egg are symbols for Easter time. Deriving from the Jewish tradition where lamb is sacrificed for Passah (a week before Easter Feast of Christianity), it is traditional to have lamb for Easter dinner, the so-called "Osterlamm". The egg, the easter egg, is symbol of new life, fertility and fruitfulness – therefore also an important symbol for spring time.
